Scholarship Overview

Make a Positive Difference is a Christian student education foundation based in the United States of America. The purpose of the Foundation is to further the spiritual and educational growth of college and university students in developing countries by providing financial aid to qualified students for study in their home country. By assisting students, the Foundation believes that the students will use the education they receive to make a positive difference in their countries and the world.

The Foundation grants full and partial scholarships to selected students on the merits of the applications received. Scholarships can be used for tuition, fees, and required books and materials. The scholarships are eligible for renewal annually for up to a maximum of four years. Funding for the scholarships is through donations to the Make a Positive Difference Foundation.


Eligibility

The application and selection process is conducted annually during the summer time period. Application is by invitation only. Information about the scholarship is distributed to Christian churches in an area of focus prior to the application window. Prospective applicants can also contact the Foundation in order to receive information about the application process. In addition, in order to qualify, the candidate must:

  • Be a citizen in an area of focus
  • Be accepted for enrollment by a college or university.
  • Have been actively involved in a local church for two years prior to making an application.
  • Enroll as a full-time student and not work more than one part-time job while classes are in session.
  • Complete the Foundation scholarship application and submit it by the stated deadline.
  • Provide three letters of recommendation. One letter should be from a current or former teacher and two letters should be from local church leadership.

Selection and Award Notification

A selection committee comprised of the Make A Positive Difference Foundation Board of Directors reviews applicant materials and makes award decisions. The selection committee uses weighted evaluation criteria to assess the quality of each applicant’s materials. All decision by the selection committee are final.

All applicants are notified via email approximately 30 days after the application submission deadline has passed. This notification will inform applicants whether or not they have been awarded a scholarship and the amount of the award. Conditional awards may be offered prior to college or university acceptance with the provision that the student is accepted and registered for enrollment before the beginning of the academic semester. No funds are transferred until acceptance and registration for enrollment has been verified. The amount of the scholarship award will differ by applicant according to the tuition and fees of the school of choice. Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the college or university whenever possible.

Renewal

The scholarships are not guaranteed beyond the first year but may be renewed for up to four years as funds are available upon satisfaction of the following criteria:

  • The recipient attends class regularly and maintains a satisfactory academic standing.
  • The recipient maintains active involvement in a local church and a positive Christian influence in the community.
  • The recipient provides an annual written update to the fund concerning the impact that the scholarship is having in furthering their academic and Christian goals.
